| uninterrupted service to our country for

| | much in service to their Corps and

| 232 years and have distinguished

| | country. Now decades older, I clearly

| themselves "in every clime and place" in
| |
| | remember many with whom I served as young
|
| such far off lands and remote beaches
| |
| | men unselfish in their dedication and
|
| "from the Halls of Montezuma to the
| |
| | unwavering in their loyalty while never
|
| Shores of Tripoli": in France at Belleau
| |
| | questioning their duty to defend our
|
| Wood; on the infamous Iwo Jima and
| |
| | nation. Always with a determined 'Gung
|
| throughout the Pacific islands; at Inchon
| |
| | Ho' attitude, Marines have stood ready to
|
| and the Chosin Reservoir in Korea; at Khe
| |
| | fight our country's battles "on the land,
|
| Sanh and Hue City in Vietnam; and now
| |
| | in the air, or at sea" wherever and
|
| throughout Iraq in such towns as Fallujah
| |
| | whenever called upon.
|
| and the Anbar Province.
| |
| | And so, on this special day, I will hoist
|
| Marines historically have heroically
| |
| | a toast to those Marines, past and
|
| answered our country's call never
| |
| | present, who have risked their lives for
|
| faltering in their dedication. "Semper
| |
| | their country and I will especially never
|
| Fidelis" ("Always Faithful") is their
| |
| | forget those who have made the ultimate
|
| motto and "Once a Marine, Always a
| |
| | sacrifice; their memory bolsters my faith
|
| Marine" their creed.

| The Marines' Hymn proclaims "if the Army
