| It was a dark and stormy night. Whoops,
| |
| | contest.Rick and Shawna were more
|
| wrong story. It was the early 1980's and
| |
| | familiar than I with Mrs. Whitney as they
|
| my girlfriend and I at the time were
| |
| | also ran a horse-drawn carriage business
|
| hanging out a lot with our good friends
| |
| | that Marylou had used the services of.
|
| Rick and Shawna, the original owners of
| |
| | The event was to take place at Siros, a
|
| Madame Jumels restaurant in Saratoga
| |
| | popular upscale restaurant and watering
|
| Springs, New York. I'm not sure what's
| |
| | hole near the Saratoga Racetrack.
|
| there now, but Madame Jumels was at the
| |
| | Everyone agreed this would be a blast. As
|
| bottom of Caroline Street and quite the
| |
| | seasoned veterans for several years at
|
| popular place in it's day. I was a big
| |
| | the infamous Bolton Landing Bed Races on
|
| fan of the early morning radio show on
| |
| | Lake George, we had a fair idea on how to
|
| WPYX hosted at that time by Bob Mason and
| |
| | make headlines while having a good time.
|
| Bill Sheehan, a gnarly pair of shock
| |
| | It's kind of a Ratpack thing. Dean
|
| jocks known for their over-the-top
| |
| | Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr.,
|
| pranks. (It is now known as the Wakin' Up
| |
| | Peter Lawford and Angie Dickinson; we had
|
| With the Wolf show, hosted by Bob
| |
| | learned from the best. Back when men were
|
| Wolfeld.) They came up with the idea of
| |
| | men...and booze was your buddy. Growing
|
| having a Marylou Whitney look-alike
| |
| | up in the sixties surely had it's
|
| contest. For the ill-informed, Marylou
| |
| | benefits. We set about making our
|
| Whitney is the widow of millionaire
| |
| | strategy. It was decided the horse and
|
| Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney and a local
| |
| | carriage would help make our entrance
|
| celebrity, socialite, philanthropist, and
| |
| | memorable. As Rick and Shawna would be
|
| all-around nice gal. The thought of
| |
| | manning the carriage and I was ugly
|
| spoofing her in a look-alike contest was
| |
| | enough as a man, let alone the
|
| more than I could stand. I set out to
| |
| | well-preserved Whitney, that left my
|
| talk my friends into joining the
| |
| | girlfriend to be Marylou.
